During Amsterdam Dance Event’s official opening concert in the legendary Royal Theatre Carré, artist Nick Verstand examines our subconscious via light art, music and modern dance. The performance symbolizes the transformation of the self through different stadia. A unique, abstract and artistic experience to kick-off the annual festival and conference.
“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”
- Carl Gustav Jung
For this show, entitled Within Without II, Verstand joins forces with Sedrig Verwoert (choreographer & dancer), Wanderwelle (music), Wes Broersen (interaction designer), Marijn Cinjee (music & sound design), and Jasmine Karimova and Pitou (vocals). Together with Reina Trifunovic, Alanna Archibald, Comfort Kondehson, Winter Wieringa and Adam Russell-Jones, Verwoert will provide the performance with dance - a three-dimensional pas de deux included.
