Soldiers. Story from Ferentari depicts a gay love story in Ferentari, a run-down neighbourhood in Bucharest largely inhabited by the Roma community. Adi, an introverted anthropologist, comes to live in the area to research Roma pop music, manele, and meets Alberto, a local with a criminal past. Based on a semi-autobiographical book by Adrian Schiop, who also plays the lead, and populated by non-professional actors, the film is strongly rooted in documentary approaches while pursuing a clear fictional storyline.
