Jonathan Bauer’s music is characterised by a rare balance between technical sophistication and deep, singable melodies. He plays a style that draws on the rich heritage of 1950s and 60s hard bop, yet is always coloured by contemporary musical influences. Although he is from Canada, several years in New Orleans have given his playing a special ‘soulfulness’ and an organic drive found only in the birthplace of jazz.
